We began as a group of graduate students at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center who share a common interest of integrating academic research and linguistic expertise with real-world business analysis. We strive to bridge the gap between China and the West by looking at issues that face small and medium-sized enterprises from all over the world. One of our main goals is to help such enterprises better understand issues facing Western companies trying to enter the Chinese market and Chinese companies trying to enter the Western market.

Our initiative grew out of a competition created at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center to have Chinese and International students work together on a project to increase the visibility of our center on an international scale – specifically in the business world – as well as to help HNC students connect with alumni. By relating articles to alumni, we hope to illuminate the successes and failures we have experienced as pioneers of bridging the Chinese and International markets.

Our competitive advantage lies in our ability to have both Chinese and International experts collaborate and provide research on critical questions that SMEs are looking to answer. We achieve this by providing brief bilingual analysis of current business issues in China that relate to the Chinese and global economies.

Our articles revolve around what is current, relevant and important in the context of the Chinese business world as it intersects with the international realm. We provide economic, legal and business as well as cultural and human resource related issues that companies often face in the Chinese market, or that Chinese companies face when entering a foreign market. Each article appears in both Chinese and English — a unique and user-friendly twist that distinguishes us from our competition. We strive to provide our readers with an opportunity to request research from our core of talented contributors, all of whom have experience in the Chinese market and can provide critical research in both Chinese and English.

We at Nanjing Connect hope to be able to help you in the future.
